It seems my W124 estate leaks like a sieve and there is some damp in the carpet under the pasenger side rear seat (the area exposed when lifting the seat base to fold the rear seats), and the front passenger footwell. The drivers side of the car is dry as a bone.

I had a new windscreen fitted (Autoglass) last week, and the car is currently with an indie having the rear cargo windows removed and resealed with non setting windscreen sealent as well as having some rust treated underneath the seals for the cargo area glass.

I've checked all the drains, but have also asked the indie to do the same incase I missed any.

Having read every thread on the board on the leaking W124s, it seems the other possible culprit are the condensate drains for the AC.

Can anybody let me know how to locate the ac drains, and if the tubing needs replacing, is it a DIY job? I'm not sure if these are accessible on the interior by removing the carpet, or form either the underside of the car, or via the scuttle. Any advice on testing/replacing these is appreciated.

On a final note, The tailgate glass doesn't appear to be leaking, but is it worth while having this re sealed as a precaution?

Apologies for starting another thread on this well worn subject. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James.

You need to remove the carpet covering either side of the centre console (There is a drain either side) IIRC there is one screw and it helps to lift the footwell carpet as well before you try. The drains are an odd foam lined pipe reminicent of pipe lagging. mine do not seem to protrude very far out of the car and I have always suspected that they would be a source of water coming in as well as the possibility that they may pop back into the car and let the condensate accumulate under the carpet. I think the hardest part of replacing them would be getting the hose clamps off them.

I doubt it's the sunroof drains. I'd remove the front passenger footwell carpet and let the car dry out with it parked nose-down. Then I'd locate & solve the rear leaks and see if the car stays dry. If it doesn't I'd look at the aircon drains

It's possible for water to track down the inside of the door card and end up in the footwell. You can also have water coming down the C-pillar

Worst culprit is usually the side windows in the load area

finding a leak can be hard, strip the carpet area out as best as possible and get the preassure washer out, sometimes normal hose preassure just is not enough to show up the leak easily.

Have you checked the drain holes next to the bonnet hinges ? Also check grommets up behind the glovebox ( ie where the bonnet release cable goes through the bulkhead and others ) .
