As my first post I would like to ask a probably frequently asked question.

I know that the gearbox oil should be changed around 36K, but can you confirm the oil specification to use.

Also is there a filter that should be changed or cleaned at the same time

Thanks for the help

Dextron II is fine - but i used the genuine merc stuff but at almost £80 for the correct amount i think i may just use standard Dextron II next time.

Yes there is a filter inside the pan. 3 self tappers hold it in. replace it with a genuine one IMHO.

make sure you replace the sump pan gasket for a new one afterwards

dont torque up the pan bolts too much otherwise you will distort the pan - nip them tight (just over finger tight) or buy a torque wrench.

dont forget to drain the torque converter

be careful not to over-fill. it takes 7 litres but you may not get all out so use the dipstick and maybe the old drained oil as a guide.

this is all for a 722 box.

yours is very similar to this how-to, but the 124 wont have the too-tight safe pan bolts so beware;
