W124 Autoboxes

Quick question....are the 4speed autoboxes on the W124's the same throughout the range, ie will a 230E box fit a 300E.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that they were the same boxes...yes/no?

They are all different, but by how much is the issue. It is probably torque loading and speedometer drive gearing.

I would stick to engine variants to determine whether one would be acceptable. i.e. 4 cyl engine, 6 cyl engines, multivalves, diesels, etc, then change the speedo drive over.

Vacuum units differ, modulating pressures differ, etc.
