Hi all,

I wonder if anyone knows whether the sound proffing foam that is attached to the underside of the W124 bonnet is available to purchase?

All 3 of my 124s have eaten their foam over the years, with nothing left on either, except a few delicate pieces hanging on!

Is is possible to get new replacements?

I've tried getting a second hand item, however they are all falling apart and certainly do so, when you try to remove them.

Looking for some for mine too. Have not tried too hard! Engine is quiet enough, sound proofing replaced would make it bob on - or would it make that much difference.

yes they cost around £50 IIRC for most models..

Taking the old stuff on can be messy and attaching the new one requires some strong adhesive and a lot of patience.

I used some wide brooms to help stick mine on..

I have a theory that when the engine mounts are shot, they accelerate the deterioration of this lining on some models.

Reason being that the engine moves when it revs and the airbox etc ends up rubbing against it more and breaking more bits off etc.

Worth being aware of if you're going to be fitting a new lining. As Jay says, they're about £50 or so from memory.

They were definately still available, as of 2 years ago. I got a brand new MB-one bought through my Merc Specialist.
I'm afraid I can't remember how much it was though :o

Mine is sagging and hanging down

I'm just about to visit the dealer and ask

Apparently there are two types
Diesel one - with a small heat reflective panel above the exhaust

and

normal petrol one without this panel

here is a how too link that was posted on an earlier thread

Just checked with MBZ Winchester - £58.50 plus VAT...less the 10% discount for older cars...for the petrol, (Coupe), one

They do not supply Adhesive

I am now search for 3M Super Trim Adhesive 08091 and 3M General Purpose Cleaner - 08987
The peach part site reckon you need two cans of the adhesive and one of the cleaner

I suppose that the job will work out at £100 all in
