W124 Brake Caliper Bolts req'd

Front Brake Caliper Bolts the 13mm? ones that go through the caliper not the 17mmm caliper carrier ones I lost them during the Send to Bigg Red for Refurb somwehere down the line . 2 each side maybe someone has 4 as sometimes they come with a caliper / pads ? so anyone in Birmingham / coventry area or if posted I'll pay the postage Merc want £24 and a few weeks order from germany

If you buy genuine ATE pads , they come with the bolts .
 
Unfortunately i bought the pads genuine Merc from KMS in Brum while I was passing
Yeah , I always buy from eBay.de and only genuine ATE parts , which always come with the bolts etc needed to do the job .

Buy from a dealership and it's a lottery which supplier filled the blue and white box .

Some have a 12mm head and some have 13mm ( aftermarket brembo is 12mm I believe ) . They all fit in the caliper for my W203.. I may have some more lying around, I will check tomorrow.

They're not really meant to be used more than once , which is why ATE supply new bolts as required along with discs and pads .

In that case then buying sliders usually comes with them, so cheapest that way

Only because of the thread lock....so if you put some blue thread lock on you can re use them. They are not single use stretch bolts.
 
Mind what type you buy . Do make sure they look just like the ones above with shoulder on them ..and not threaded all up the bolt .The thread makes them weak . I was sent a set with all the thread going up to the bot head ,,i returned them .

I’ve just changed the front pads on my X1. Both the originals and replacements (genuine BMW) have bolts threaded all the way.
 
Yes but not Mercedes WW124 are they ..? i sent for the parts to do mine , and they came with fully threaded up to the bolt head ... but i purchased 8 more with a shoulder on them ...it for strength , as a ths threaded bolt will shear off though the thread

How much torque are you putting through that bolt to shear it? I'm pretty sure the recommended torque isn't that much?
 
Well i have no idea the job was done years ago. But if you knew anything about engineering you coun beg to differ .So - why a threaded bolt is not as strong as a shoulder bolt . Because the hole that the fully threded bolt fits into , will have more clearance in it ,this allows movement of the calipers if it comes loose .. .And a bolt with a shoulder is more preciese fit , and stops any movement at any time .
 
I bet the shear force or the fully threaded bolt would be tens of times higher than the specified torque.....but I hear what you are saying about the fit of the bolt....but even that wont be much different as the outer points of thread will be usually be the same diameter as the uncut part. I bet no one knows of a correctly torqued fully threaded caliper bolt shearing.

And a fully threaded bolt will part company first before a shoulder bolt will , they are under cut at the head . ..And you ues a fully threaed Mercedes bolt, if you have them as replacements .I was sent fully threaded bolts fom an aftermarket parts shop .And they were wrong ..Mercedees sent 8 of the right type.-shoulder bolts.Still have them in my garage .As for torque onn my brake calipers it 150nm ,on some it can be as high as 180nm.

150nm on caliper slide bolts? Maybe you tightened them up too much, no wonder you're worried about breaking them......
 
Read the post above of mine ,,my job is still fine .And i have been in industry for 60 years . And i was bought up knowing how to put things together, my first spanner came in a Mechano set but you would not know about them Ho and owning my own repar shop .
 
I'm not arguing about which bolt/set screw is stronger, I'm worried that you're putting that much torque through a bolt that's approx M8! 150nm!!!
