Hi all,
The window regulator on the drivers side of my 1996 w124 cabrio is broken. Can anyone tell me if it is the same mechanism as the saloon or is it specific to the coupe/cabrio as there are a few saloon ones on e-bay.
Many thanks
Eddie

You failed to mention weather its the front or the back.

Either way I think they may be the same as the coupe, not sure about the saloon.

Same as a coupe, saloon one won't do the job.

Nick mercedes, is it safe to say the doors on 124 cabriolet are the same as one's on a coupe?

Cheers Dee

Forgive what is probably a stupid question, but does the fact that the windows have to synch with the roof operation have any implications?

I bought my window regulator from Eurocarparts. It was a genuine merc part ... a revised part too I might add that was stronger and better made than the original. (I assume to address the rather regular failing of this particular component)

Dont buy one second hand as they do fail and the job of replacing the regulator is not one you want to have to do more than once.

both fronts have gone on my coupe:(, but at the minute two hundred pounds for the privilige of using the front windows is a bit steep i need a new set of wheels, inner wing welding and a bottom wishbone.

Will not matter in any way shape or form...

The new motor will simply work under instruction if you like, with the rest of the windows & come down in sync when the hood is going down.

hi

what exactly has gone wrong with the window..

is it stuck, is it slow, is it sluggish..

please advise! thanks

Thanks. I was originally wondering if there was an additional connection or feed from the roof regulator to input or co-ordinate the synching process.

I guess that the roof electrickery will be connected to the comfort locking relay which would be able to control the window operation.

Aha! So apart from the comfort locking relay, my theory wasn't too bad? Whilst I'm no good with spanners, I used to be okay with electrics - until they invented fuses, relays and the like!:o Last time a replaced the stereo in a car (my 300CE), I genuinely believed I had removed its entire genitalia (male, by the looks of some of the bits )!

Basically, when the drivers door window is almost at the top, it starts to go clunk, clunk, clunk. I took the door trim off and can see the gearteeth on the regulator are worn, so the motor is "skipping" over the worn gears and making the noise and the window stops about 10mm short of the top. I've seen them on e-bay for the coupe for £115 plus shipping, which I- as a fully practising tight Yorkshireman- find excessive. Today I've also had a partfinder quote of £63 from a firm called Dronsfields, has anyone dealt with them?
Eddie

i will double check at my end:confused:, it might be worth you resubmiting your details and just tell them its a coupe not a cab to see if they are trying it on

I think it is different and you should buy it specific for that only.
