I have a 94 w124 Cabriolet which has a hardtop.

I need to source the plastic/rubber bungs that cover the holes in the rear, when the hardtop is removed.

The dealer says that these are not available but I feel certain he is wrong.

Could anyone help me with a part number or supplier ?

Thanks

Hi,

Where exactly are these holes in the rear located?

I personally have not got a hardtop but was not aware that any rubber bungs have to be removed to fit one...

Just out of curiosity, is your hardtop a Weissmann one?

PS: If you ever want rid, I have cash waiting to take it off your hands....:)

Hi,

Mine had a hard top, and I had the same problem, they really do not seem to be available, apparently (I don't know how true this is) the hard top was not made by Merc. I solved the problem with some rubber grommets for an electrical box. Mine was fitted by drilling holes in the rear deck, it's not an elegant solution in my opinion, and judging by the state of the interior of mine when I got it, they also leak for a passtime. I don't see the point of them as the hood is so good!

Yes it is the all steel Weissman version, very expensive I am told when new.

The bungs cover the holes that are used to locate the rear part of the hardtop, they are located just behind the flaps that lift up , and on the panel the rises to accomadte the hood when lowered.

I know the hood is excellent but the hardtop transforms the car and gets rid of ALL the ( minor I appreciate ) scuttle shake, and very snug in the winter.

Also IMO it gives the car a different look with large back window, sort of coupe looking but different.

I certainly would not have purchased one , but mine came with the car and it is definately not for sale :)

Hi Reeventu,

I have asked another hardtop owner if his car has them, and will let you know. As these were third party fitments, with a few companies supplying them (Weismann and Germar being the most common), perhaps these would be the companies to contact also?

For my own clarification please, which of the two pictures is like yours, the first or the second?

Hi MD5

It is definately Weismann marked WS-H 5.241 which I guess is the serial number.

good idea to contact them but do they still exist?

from the picture I think it is the first one BUT ,it is on end on its stand and to be honest it looks odd from that angle

They still exist, and now manufacture their own, BMW powered cars. The chap I mentioned sent away to Germany for his, and I don't know what roof he has, but they must be worth a try.

I live on the Dorset/Hampshire border, so if you see a beryl blue one, give me a wave!

Cheers,
Mike

Good luck, John. Funnily enough, we still have a nautic blue 124 coupé I bought from a guy in Shawford about 15 years ago!

Mike

Is the coupe the 320 or 220 ?

I really think these are one of the best looking cars, but finding a well specced one with good miles and history at a non C.I price seems impossible.

thanks again , still waiting a reply but I guess my plugs are not of the highest priority !

Neither John! I have an '88, first edition 300CE, with the M103 3litre engine. The cabrio satisfied my urge for a facelift model when I bought it three years ago, but I'd still like a facelift coupé. Too many desirable Mercs, and not enough space or money!

Weismann and Germar options?

peeps.. whats the best route to obtaining a hard top? I like the look of the sleeker green version (bottom pic) than the angular top pic, but then again, the top pics lines might suit a w124 better..

i know this is an old thread, but where is the best place one can source this? I remember seeing the one and only one of these driving past My School in early 1990's (Mill Hill Boys) and i was so fascinated by it.. excellent accessory, though as has been mentioned, is pricey..

help find me one please peeps.. :)

These are very pricey and very rare, i remember there was a guy on the "other" forum selling a cab with the hardtop the car was in France though, you can try searching ebay.de o rhtere are a few companies that can make one for you, i met a guy at Ace cafe during a German car night that said he can get one made in Poland. I can dig up his number if you want it.

should have replied before but forgot !!!

I got the two plastic plugs direct from from weismann, cosr 15 euro delivered.

very expensive for two plugs but tidy the holes up so well pleased.

maybe weismann could offer a price for a hardtop , but I suspect you would need a stiff drink and be sitting down before you looked at the quote.

DV,

It isn't as a question of just finding the hardtop - I heard a figure of approximately 1,000 units made by Weismann, so a job in itself! I agree with the look of the lower roof, which I think is the Germar. You will need the contol units + wiring, mounting brackets etc. and the hood cover with holes for the mounting posts. All of these would possibly be available from the donor vehicle, probably on a swap basis for the cover (this was offered to me by a seller a couple of years ago, but his was mushroom leather, and mine is black). None of it insurmountable with the approriate parts, but after conquering the challenge of finding the "holy grail" (I've seen 4 on ebay uk/de), the reality is that I sorn mine over the winter, and don't use it in wet weather, so it finally seemed a pointless, costly excercise!

I know someone whose car was specced new with it, and he struggles to use it, physically and mentally. The other thing is that these cars are at their best with the roof down. The mounting post holes don't enhance the look of the hood cover -imagine the 129 SL holes set into the leather? Just my thoughts, but it almost seems futile, the more I think about it!

Glad to hear it John. At least they are available, and cheaper than three pints where I was on Saturday!
