W124 - CD spasms

For a 10 year old audio system the old balupunkt in my W124 doesn't sound bad but the CD changer has an infuriating habit of cycling endlessly through the CD's until it (yawn) eventually stops randomly and plays a CD (a sort of CD roulette!).

Any ideas folks?

I'm not averse to upgrading so does anyone know a good unit that sounds good and doesn't make the old girl look like the starship enterprise's bridge?
