Hello all.

I have after almost 2 years with various mechanics I got the car back and working.

For the first time since I bought it, I took it for long test drive and I found that there is a problem with the gearbox.

I don’t have 4 and 5 gears. I checked the oil in the gearbox and its more than it should could this be the problem?

It needs to be fully up to temperature and running when you check the level .

I’ve had both 300TE-24 and 300SL-24 , both 5 speed .

The TE was faultless, despite its 620,000 miles , while the SL , merely run in on 220,000 miles , started losing 4th gear and going straight from 3rd to 5th on occasion .

Both had had regular fluid and filter changes .

The first thing to do is a ATF and filter change , also check for signs of leaks .

Will do, although I don't think that this will solve the problems. Could this be an electrical issue as I had a number of electrical issues to date

I don’t have 4 and 5 gears.

That's a new one for me. I have had my identical car skip 4th due to faulty 4/5th switch. Had to clear codes before normal service returned.

Definitely read codes but if you're not getting 4th at all that sounnds odd.

As said, check codes first.
