Hi All,

I own a w124 300TD (atmospheric wagon) with AT and AC.

It's rather hot here for towing a caravan and I want to be on the safe side. So
I want to improve the cooling capacity on water, engine oil and AT oil.

1. Can I fit a larger radiator (300 turbo diesel's for example) ?

2. Can I fit an engine oil cooler ?

3. Can I fit an extra AT oil cooler ?

Any suggestion or experience appreciated.
Regards,

Dogan

I would have thought if you sourced the car locally it would have the cooling capacity designed for your climate. I would concentrate on get the cars existing cooling system in top condition. Radiator clean internally and externally,Water pump, thermostat, hoses, coolant mix correct, viscous fan coupling, electric aircon fans and control relays etc etc. The auto transmission fluid is normally cooled by using part of the main radiator as a heat exchanger. This can be a weak spot and lead to gearbox damage in older cars if the internal radiator pipes get corroded leading to coolant in the autotrans fluid. Changing to a separate autotrans oil cooler would be my first mod and should relieve the load on the primary coolant circuit also.

I think that Grober has given a very good answer, nothing more to add to it
