W124 coupe mudflaps

Does anyone know how to remove the mudflaps on a W124

They seem to have square covers over what i'm expecting to be a screw or bolt however in trying to prise this off i've managed to snap my door key in half

Are these just covers like I was thinking or the clamp types ?

The square covers are actually clamps, they need to be prised out of a recess in the flap and then pushed away and off. There should also be screws
