My W124 has got 3 buttons in the centre of the heater controls:-
Top is the dehumidifier
Middle is the air-con (snowflake, ie default is a/c off)
Bottom is re-circulate

What is the difference between dehumidify and air-con ?
Surely air-con will dehumidify the air so why seperate buttons ?

The output always feels colder on dehumidify, even with the temp wheels on their lowest settings (clicked).

Climate control system

I'm no expert but I have a 1994 E320 w124 which I've driven for the last 10 years and I think you may have misunderstood the a/c system fitted to your vehicle.

The system is climate control, so you don't actually select a/c on or off. You set the temperature you want and the system provides heat or cold depending on the current temp in the car.

The purpose of the 3 switches you mention is;

Top: Select a/c on to demist the windows. System runs heating and a/c together. Very effective at clearing the windows on a cold morning.

Middle: Disable the a/c. Allows you to set temp to cold to turn heat off but a/c will not kick in. Good for economy.

Bottom: Recirculate are from inside vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Thanks robc but my A/C is the after-market system, not the factory fitted units.
