W124 drivers armrest positions

If just finished repairing the drivers armrest on my E250TD and I'm wondering how many positions it has. My only sits in the up or down positions.

Correct it is only up or down .

But what then could the piece circled in yellow be for? it looks sort of like a ratchet mechanism, but if i did engage it would stop the armrest going up.

Push the circle in and the armrest lowers further by around an inch.

May be to stop it falling down as you lift it up i think the whole thing works on a retaining spring and the ratchet acctualy hold the arm rest in the up position ..

I think mine has two down positions. I will check later.

I checked my arm rest.
When it's down, press the button and it goes slightly down again .
