Morning

I think may impatience may have got the better of me, and now I could really do with some advice please.

Wanted to upgrade the wheels on my Coupe, but not stupidly, some that where fitted to this model originally.

I went to a suggested Mercedes parts supplier who has found a set of original part AMGS:

Fronts 17 x 7.5, Rears 17 x 8.5

However, popped them on last night, and got terrible rudding on the front, so much so, one wing has cut into the tyre - dangerous, and I need to change today.

Questions are:

A. Are these the correct wheels or completely wrong
B. Tyres fitted are all 225/45/R17 - Surely the fronts should be narrower.

I'd be most greatful for any help on this, I do have a couple of pictures of the wheels fitted, they do come close to the line of the bodywork.

Thanks all.

Taken from Nick Froome's site on standard wheel sizes.

Standard steel wheel size 6.5J x 15 ET 49
Standard alloy wheel size 6.5J x 15 ET 48
Standard tyre size 195/65 x 15

Sports Chassis alloy wheel size 7J x 15 ET 42
Sports Chassis tyre size 205/60 x 15

I think you answer your own question - if the wings are touching the tyres, the wheel is not correct.

What`s the offset?IIf you`re talking about monoblocks, either your car is lowered a lot,or your suspention is gone. Some pic would be nice

Thanks for the reply, have attached a couple of pics taken this morning.

The AMG E36 ( w124 ) came with a 17 inch wheel.

Can you get the wheels off and look at the offset stamped on the back ( it will begin ET and then two numbers )

I used to have an old 230CE with 17 inch wheels , and i ran 225/45/17's all round ok.

Quick update

A couple of issues, drivers front wing has been replaced and the lip isn't rolled in enough, leaving a sharp internal edge which is catching the edge of the tyre. I have two options for the front issues:

A. Have the lip carefully altered.
B. Go for 205/50/R17 tyres which would give me the extra space required.

The rears are another issue, I think that the 17x8.5 are just too wide for the car, almost level with the bodywork itself. May need exchange these for 17x7.5 too.

This AMG set came off a W202 AMG, with ET30 on the rears and ET35 Fronts.

Any more help greatly recieved, in a bit of an unknown area with these, prefer to keep the new set, but maybe have to return to the originals. :-(

I think you shocks and springs need looking dude,or you car has been lowered. With those alloys should be no problems at all

Do the tyres rub all the time or only when steering full lock or when breaking hard causing nose diving and then rubbing?

I must admit, shocks and spring seem ok, have four people in it regularly, and all very smooth and fine, a few squeaks maybe.

It seems like only the drivers side front catches when hitting a hole or on speed bumps, I can see where its catching, so really think its down to poor quality non Mercedes wing.

I'll be removing them all again tonight until ive sorted a few things out I think, thanks for all of the advice.

Hi All!

Well, i'm a new member here and what a forum this is! I have finally joined. I have w124 e220 coupe and i was just searching when i came across this post (which is why i probably joined)

just want to share my view's on Eleven's post:

i'm running on 17x7.5 ET 35 up front with no issues what so ever. The front arch lips has been rolled but im certain that these come rolled as standard. My e200 saloon previously had the same. Also i'm running on a 1bump shim at the fron with a 35mm drop. no rubbing still?

maybe its worth checking your lips have been rolled.

What did you do eventually ?

Whilst you told us the wheel sizes you did not clarify the tyre sizes on those wheels.

Wheel, Tyre & Suspension full spec

Hi kth286

All great now, lots of work, but well worth it:

Full H&R Comfort shock and springs upgrade all round

Front wheels AMG 17x7.5 with new Kumho KU31 205/45/17
Rear wheels AMG 17x8.5 with new Kumho KU31 225/45/17

New disks, pads and calipers all round too

Arches not rolled, no rubbing and great to drive, just come back from a trip to Yorkshire (600 miles of driving) with 4 of us in the car, luggage and it was great.

Ive put a few pictures on another of my posts if you're interested, not that clean now though!!

Thanks
