I'm looking to replace the broken auto gearbox on my E300D 124 estate 24v. Is it possible to replace it the gearbox with another auto gearbox from another Mercedes of the same era or will I have to get one from another 124 e300d?

Can anyone advise.

You'll need one from another E300 Diesel or an early W210 300 Diesel. From memory the W124 part number is 722.435 and the W210, 722.436

The W210 box has an electrical speedo sender and the W124 a mechanical one but the parts can be interchanged between the boxes

The "management" system of the box is complex. Make sure the problem does't lie there before swopping the gearbox

I've got a good 4 speed autobox from a s124 e300 diesel here if you need one.

Thanks Carat have just today managed to source a gearbox from a local seller. I really did appreciate your very reasonable offer. It's unfortunate that your almost 200miles away.
BTW which transmission fluid do I need ?
