I've decided to sell my W124 E320 as I've just bought a 4x4 in expectation of winter snow! It's from 1995, has 10 months MOT and Tax and details below:
Good points: 134k miles, good (possibly full) service history with original service book and invoices, very good condition cream MB tex leather interior (no rips or holes), bodywork in good condition apart from 3 small patches of rust (details below). Engine is creamy smooth (excellent oil pressure with no leaks), ride is sublime due to refreshed suspension. Brakes are also very strong and the 8-spoke alloy wheels are all in good condition (incl. spare). All electric windows, electric tilt/slide sunroof. CD player. Very cheap classic car insurance (I pay <£300 for this and my Capri 280!)
August 2012 I spent £1100 servicing the car at W124 specialists Total Mercedes Servicing (ex-124 Works) on the following work: Automatic gearbox replaced with a good second hand unit; new front Sportline suspension wishbones + 4 wheel tracking; central exhaust box replaced; new fan belt; new dampers and ARB bushes; 2 new all season Hankook Optimo 4S tyres on the rear (gave excellent traction on the snow last winter). The wiring loom has recently been professionally repaired by an auto-electrician (Advanced Car Services, Manchester).
Bad points: the central locking doesn’t work – apparently there is no power going to the pump (according to the auto-electrician); there is small chunk out of the rear bumper where I reversed into a car park pillar (couple of cm across, see photo) – it needs filling and spraying; the wings have rust patches on the usual W124 places (see wheel photo below, LHS), and a small patch on the boot lid. The electric aerial doesn't work - the only radio station I can get is the local classic rock station, which is fine for me!
It’s not perfect, but drives great and overall is a very solid example of the classic W124 Mercedes. I’d like £1600 ovno, and I’m located near Manchester.
