Been driving the coupe today and the accelerator pedel is very hard, I tried to rev the car from the throttle body and this is very hard to move. I guees I need to strip it and lubricate it, anyone done the job before? A few points in the right direction is what Im after really.

Cheers,

Mine is the same. I try to reverse on gravel and end up ripping up the gravel. I have replaced the accelerator cable and this didn't improve things.

I'll probably spend most of tomorrow looking at this now.

just pull off (in a logical order) every ball joint you can find in the throttle mechanism and lubricate them with light grease. Once you develop a feel for how tight/slack they should be you'll notice any that are "wrong". You are likely to find a couple with more play than the others - these will be the ones causing problems. Replace them, they cost pennies :)

W124 accelerator

There's one model of the W124 you shouldn't rev at the engine because it sets a fault code in the ECU. It's the one with the full electronic ASR / ASD / you name it, it has it / electronic throttle

Just an update, it was just the accelerator cable, the old one was kinked in 3 places.

Since having the cable replaced, I still wasnt convinced, the car seemed to lag, i tought may be the throttle body needed to be stripped and cleaned.

Nothing of the sort, the actual pedal is broken, the part on the back that attaches to the linkage rod just folds when you depress the pedal. So the pedal moves over an inch before the rod moves, only £6 to fix :bannana:

How did u fix it then?

Probably called a Breaker to get a replacement pedal and then fitted it.

Do you want pedal R&R instructions? :)
