This caught my eye when looking at E500 prices. At first sight it seemed like any other W124 E500 has and, at £30k, it’s in line with recent asking prices. But photo 14 shows a data plate stating:

AMG 119E 60im E60
300 kW (408PS)
550 Nm

This doesn’t sound like standard for the W124 E500! Is the seller unknowingly selling a 6.0 version at what would be a knock-down price?! I’m sure there was one on here recently for much more (can’t find the thread now...).

1995 Silver MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS {Edition unlisted} for sale for £29989 in Keighley, West Yorkshire

Translated = Gash
Crock o' shite.
Badly fitted aftermarket body kit.
Dreadful shut lines.
Inappropriate wheels with P****** caps and P******? brakes.
P******/brembo window sticker.
LHD. Jap import.

BUT.......................................

If that plate is genuine it has the AMG 5956cc light alloy V8.

If I've read the blurry VIN correctly although still not very helpful

You really need a picture of the white rectangular sticker on the transverse panel above the left headlight, that will have spark plug and other info on it. The E60's got special plugs and a tuning sticker to match IIRC.
The other little sticker with the AMG part number on it could have been purchased and photographed anywhere [is it the same camera that took that shot as the others for example, check also the chassis number in the system, although they may not show it as anything else other than a 5 litre even though it is a 6 litre. They started life as a 5 litre.

The front bumper does seem a little strange, they had an AMG logo in the middle lower part and slight recess lines up front lower down in the centre too.

The rear bumper is not from a 95 car but and earlier pre Aug 93.

I am not sure what shut lines are dreadful, they look pretty standard to me...?

Front indicator lenses are the wrong colour for the car and indicative of fiddling by a previous owner, as are the wheels brakes and so on - something you would not do to a six litre because it only devalues it.

Finally the door card material is correct for the 6 litre, but was also used on the last of the run limited edition 5 litres.

So, a bit tricky to conclude for sure - surely some questions to ask - but if you approach this as "unlikely" you won't be dissapointed.

It is more likely some Japaneser has done an "upgrade project' and brought his nice 500 up to 60 spec asthetically, very common thing to do in Japan then discuss all day long if the owner got it perfect - in their eyes.

Didn't the later cars have a couple of small vents in the front wings ahead of the front wheels. Oh and they are not speedline Porsche wheels. They were fitted to the 964 turbo 3.6 and were split rim marked "speedline for Porsche"......I had one.

Yes Jay should be able to give some insight - it's got an E 500 front bumper by the looks not the AMG 6.0 one...

Measure the stroke if you are really serious.

From what I read on the presentation card next to a genuine E60 in Brooklands it should have '957' in the VIN apparently...
Would load the pic if I could, was a great looking car!

The bumper are correct, the E60s come with the standard E500 bumpers

Rear seats suggest that they're from a car with much higher mileage and I'd tread very carefully on anything coming from Japan

They never got the wrap around rear bumper dash or the AMG front bumper with the logo in the middle...?
