W124 E500 - but is it one of the rare 6.0s??

According to wikipedia the 6.0 also has a larger bore, 100mm vs 96.5mm, so that would be (slightly) easier to measure I suppose.

Measure the stroke if you are really serious.

You might well be right! They seem to have photographed it carefully avoiding the front 3/4 view, but from the front view they have taken, there seems to be a strange absence of amber glass on that side.

Is it me or is the driver side indicator missing?

Ah, that's the one I had seen previously; looks to have much better provenance, and with the price to match. In fact it seems that it was the very same one on display in Brooklands, mentioned in post #12.

I am amazed at the price levels W124 E500s have reached, hence my interest in a 'cheap' one, but thanks to all I am now much the wiser about the Motorhub one. No such thing as a free lunch and all that...

This one has its AMG logo missing but shows the moulding lines ont he AMG bumper and the returns on the rear bumper along the sides.

Mercedes E60 AMG Ltd 1996 £79,995 SOLD – Frays Modern Classics

They never got the wrap around rear bumper dash or the AMG front bumper with the logo in the middle...?

AMG Japan did all sorts but E60s were never offered with any kit from factory, just the standard E500 bumpers
Even their limited edition 7.3s didn't have AMG kits

958 SPECIAL MODEL - LIMITED

So it was basically a LTD car, what a shame as in original condition it would have easily get the asking price

So many ifs and buts, was it or was nots, but to the untrained eye like mine it looks like a halfords accident and painted with a rattle can badly

I never said they came with a kit from AMG, AMG is the kit. AMG did a 7.3 124? Vath = not AMG. An E500E is NOT an AMG and will not have an AMG bumper. An E60 is an AMG and WILL carry the AMG front bumper as described with logo and form work - if it is GENUINE and if it has not had the bumpers replaced.
That is the best info I can give, take it or leave it.

E500 vs E60, real subtle but the logo is there on the AMG bumper not on the MB one. Means EVERYTHING to AMG does that logo - and where it goes..... the form work is there too and the driving lights are longer, looks good IMO.
You get a flavour for why people have put 500's on them - try calling AMG for a front bumper price vs MB for a 500 one - they both fit.

AMG did a 7.3,on limited numbers and saloons only but they did
What I'm saying is that even an original E60 with 957 came with standard bumpers/500 bumpers.Only a handful cars had amg bumper fitted and that's not from factory, only AMG japan did
You can see on the two pictures of the E60 you posted ^ that it has the original E500 bumpers

Well, that's where you got it wrong, one isn't a straight fit...The AMG bumper isn't designed to fit on a car with wider arches than standard which the 500e has
While the bumper fits because all the mounting are the same,it'll look shite and not line up so it would need some work first
Same goes for fitting a 500 bumper on standard arches,it sticks too far out on the sides

The bumpers in the pictures are different.
500 and 60 arches are both wider than standard.

I was referring to this which is an original E60

Didn't the later cars have a couple of small vents in the front wings ahead of the front wheels. Oh and they are not speedline Porsche wheels. They were fitted to the 964 turbo 3.6 and were split rim marked "speedline for Porsche"......I had one.
The diesels got vents only on the offside wing.

The 6.0 engines are stamped AMG 60 near the thermostat housing, I think the airbox should have AMG lettering on as well.
As Dash said only few e60's came with amg bodykits from the factory so that's not an indication.
It is still a limited - 1 of 500 so has some value depending on condition which doesn't look that great in the photos. To be fair the limited interior is not as hardwearing hence the rear seat wear maybe?

The only way authentically a 500 bumper ends up on a 60 from new is if the owner deleted the AMG body kit option when ordering the car, otherwise it comes with an AMG bumper which is different to an E36 AMG 124 bumper and the 124 E500E bumper.

Go find me an E60 with AMG bodypackage delete on its data card & I may have an inclination to believe you, but until you do it is hear say cause you don't know any more than anybody else until you get that data card.

Since 60's were all 94 cars [were they not] they have the wraparound rear bumper trim as standard, a 94 car that does not have the full wrap around inserts is strange for 94. Why would an E60 suffer from this? Throw a pre 94 500E bumper on it Fred they won't know the difference and call it an option if they do. I don't drink Tui Beer Gents - never have.

Go find me the option delete on the Data Card of an E60 or an E60 Data Card without the AMG body package and I might be inclined to believe but until then I am calling BS. :):)

The 60 in the mag article above has a standard 500e bumper ?

The shut lines are £hite by the wings on the second silver car. Looks like a faffed about with E36 bumper to me

A forum member local to us has a genuine E60 (I drive past his house most days :) ). I'm sure he will be along soon to confirm either way !
