W124 E60 AMG £20k

Lovely car and rare, would love to own one but as Jay says too tired for the price IMO.

Pretty knackered for only 64k miles...

Hi guys,

That's my car which is for sale, and for sure the car is not mint; however I would guess price might be a tad different in case of a mint vehicle and I would assume it would be tough to buy a mint E60 for £20 k? I could be wrong on that though. On a positive notion the car is an original E60 with 957 option code in the VIN so it's not converted later on but one of the 138 manufactured.

For 'ordinary' people an E500 / E60 is just an old W124 Merc, and it takes someone to know what they are looking at to appreciate such a vehicle. That being said, it might take some time to sell such a niche car - I can live with that as it's not too bad to own an E60 - even if it's for a while only - and during the time I can fix those small things on the car - which in all honesty I should have done before posting the vehicle for sale - and I would guess the price won't drop over time anyways.

Nice forum You guys have here. I might start lurking around here in the near future also.

Greetings from rainy and dark Finland....

Thanks for the welcome, appreciate it. Yeah I guess fabulous weather is in common between the Finns and the British along with love for beer...

The E60 is pretty decent - needs a tad of attention and love and she'll be back in a condition she deserves. I'll start tinkering on the car in the meantime just for the fun of it. If someone buys the car, good - if not, I will survive :)

btw on a serious notion: it appears that the search function is not working? I mean the search in this spotted on eBay thread.

Considering the state of many of the vehicles you've brought back to life this one looks like a piece of pee.

What would it need to make it concours? £5k?

Find me a concours E60 AMG W124 for £25K.

absolutely and id buy it if it were nearer, the logistics of getting a car from finland is just too much.

It might be fun trying to get it insured as there are currently no (yes, zero, none) E60's on the road in the UK.

Should be easy for any specialist broker worth their salt, especially as with something like that you'd be wanting an agreed value.

Id bet that any E60's are registered at 500's with a 6.0 engine size.

I would snap this up but the chap is in Finland, he is private and dealing with the transport is difficult... Im not going to hand over £20K to someone without seeing the car and then driving it away myself..

Should be's are often very difficult.

I had an considerable difficulty getting my SWB G300 auto insured as it wasn't on many insurer's databases.

Looking at "Howmanyleft" the SWB is not actually specified, they only show 7 unspecified G300's, and zero G300 auto's. These figures are obviously wrong but I sure did find finding an insurer tricky.

They told me that this was because they could not find the car on their database.

I'll check the shipping costs so we all are informed about that as well. There are quite a bit of vessels sailing from Hanko to various ports in Europe so that shouldn't be a problem. Also a car lorry is an option to ship the vehicle.

Of course a really adventurous guy takes a plane to Finland and then a ferry to Sweden and drives through Sweden to Denmark and takes a ferry from there to UK or even more adventurous guy would drive through Germany and then take the chunnel to UK.

I doubt that You would buy the car anyways but let's just check out of curiosity what the shipping costs are. I would make a guess between 600-800 GBP.

edit: Roundtrip flight from Stanstead to Tampere (which is about 140km's away from where the car is) costs GBP 98.17. Inbound on 28th of Nov and outbound 30th of Nov in case You don't like the car :)

He's thrown down the gauntlet Jay, and RedC220 is right, where would you get a concours example for £25K. Be brave.......

They don't do that with SL's though...

DVLA are a mystery... The SL60 was a little more common.

In terms of E500's there were only 28 registered in the UK from new. (one of which is mine) so even less than the Sl60... so expecting them to have E60 on the drop down selection is unlikely as any that came in were personal imports.

I'll add this on this page as well: Roundtrip flight from Stanstead to Tampere (which is about 140km's away from where the car is) costs GBP 98.17. Inbound on 28th of Nov and outbound 30th of Nov (dates as an example) in case You don't like the car I can pay Your ticket back and we can have a few pints somewhere to talk how bad the car was :D

(edit: You pay the beer and be prepared for a hefty bill as we Finns like our beer a lot...)
