Doesn't matter what I do they stay on.
Dash switch no effect in any position (used to turn them on/off)
I've taken the 4 lights out - 2x rear pillar - 2x c pillar.
Perhaps the door or tailgate don't believe they are closed?
Fuse C seems to be providing the interior light power quite happily.
Dome light - pnly reading light works (may be just blown bulb unrelated).

I need to find:-
1 wiring diagram
or
2 w124 electronics expert (London or south east)

I love the car to bits but sometimes its a real pain.

Cheers

Can you swap a switch to test? Or buy one on eBay. Not sure on 124's but most of these issues are down to a door pin. They take a hammering.

Is it just the rear lights -which the tailgate being open does light- then it may be the tailgate wiring where it passes across the hinge. Pulling down the plastic headliner extension at the rear gives access to the junction box for testing.

But one spare switch for £12 off ebay take them out one at a time ,fit it in , and try the doors ...If you remove the fuse it will close down other items as well.

Tailgate wiring at the hinge- I had the the same problem on mine- the covering breaks down with the repeated opening- if u take the cover off u can normally find the offending wire- complicated though. Any MB specialist should be able to fix it easy

When and how did the interior lights start this behaviour? After you replaced bulbs or took the lights out?

It may be connected with replacement trim driver's side B pillar and passenger front footwell trim , but I can't be sure. I know the door's have the push in switches in them and potentially I am resigned to removing the trim again.

not just the tailgate - all four of the lights.

We will see this weekend!
At present the bulbs have been removed.

I have a s124 wiring diagram. Will be home Sat late if you've not found it by then drop me an email.

After a quick look at the circuit diagram I think its your dash switch.

ETM.pdf , The page is titled Courtesy lights and is in printed page number 128/9. However its actually page 76 in the actual pdf doc.

Sorry your problem sounds a bit different to mine- I thought you meant the rear tail lights and dash lights- ignore me and don't go taking the rear wiring housing apart! As above it sounds like switch
