W124 estate wheels

Hi Guys,

As part of my 230TE restoration, I was thinking of changing the wheels from the current 15 hole set up to the 8 hole version. I think I'll stick with the 15" size.

I am going to get genuine mercedes wheels, but looking around there seem to be loads of different part numbers...

So here's my question : Are all the 8 hole alloy wheels that start with the A124xxxxxxx part numbers suitable for a W124 estate?

I think I read somewhere that the estates are a little heavier and they made the wheels slightly differently. I.e. stronger? (But my mind may be playing tricks on me again and I may have just made that up.)

If so - does anyone have a list of part numbers that I should be looking for and which to avoid?

Better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers,

Blondebier

PS. I have also seen some made for the other series like A140xxxxxx as well. But they look the same to me...

The 6.5" and 7" alloys have an offset (ET) of 37-41 mm. Stick with that and you'll be OK. 8-holes for other models may have the wrong ET

There is a specific heavy-gauge "T-wheel" steel wheel for the estates. AFAIK there is no difference between alloys for the estate & saloon

To sum up, assuming the diameter, width & PCD are suitable, if the ET is correct then the wheel will be fine

I think I have found some. A1244011202 ET44 61/2JX15H2 (PCD 5 x 112)

But the tyres do seem to be a bit of an odd size to me. 195/70/R15

I thought the standard size was 195/65r15 or 205/65r15.

Does this matter?

Wrong size. Chuck them away and fit some Contis. Or I have about forty tyres of that size

Thanks Nick.

Which tyre size would these wheels have had on them originally?

195/65r15 or 205/65r15 ?

195/65/15
