Does anyone know how to remove the front carpets either side of the centre console on w124?

I need to get them out to give them a deep clean and don't won't to do it in situ for fear of soaking the rest of the interior. I also want to check the ac drains underneath them.

I'm sure it can't be hard, but I'd rather not break anything.

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the floor carpets or the sides of the center console?

Hang on a minute, which carpets. The ones that sit on the floor or the ones that go from the floor up the side of the transmission tunnel ?? There are two carpets per side.

Ok now we are cooking. Half way up that carpet is a screw (look hard for it) Take out the screw. Lift out the floor mats and wiggle the side mat forwards and down. You may have to remove the cover under the steering wheel (above your knees) if it has never been out before.

If I remember correctly there is a screw towards the front of the pannel under the dashboard, take all the carpets and foam pannels out of the footwell and it should just pull out from under the edge of the center console.

I've never done it millo777 but I am pretty sure it's a seats out, console out jobbie. Are your carpets continuously damp and if so where specifically.......?

W. The carpet splits just in front of the centre console. To remove the rear part of the carpet you are absolutely right.

Thanks for all the responses, I'll have a look for the hidden screw tomorrow! I knew I'd missed something, there was too much resistance when trying to tug them free.

They just need a proper clean. The front pax side foot well is still getting a very small amount of water under the foam despite cleaning out all the drains (The drain at the bottom of the windscreen on the pax side was blocked solid when I got the car) and taking the cargo windows out, treating some rust and replacing them with windscreen sealant. I figured I may as well check the ac drains and clean the carpets properly at the same time.

I also need to a poke around on the underside to check for any water trapped in the sills etc
