w124 fuel gauge not working

Hi all,
Few days ago I noticed the fuel gauge is playing between full and empty marks,today it did not work at all ,just pointing empty.
Is this a fuse? or someting serious happened?
If so,is it an easy DIY?

Well, it could be anything including a fuse I guess. If it's been playing up for some time though and has now failed it could be the tank sender unit.

If that's what it is, it's very easy to swap over from inside the boot (I'm guessing here your tank is behind the rear seats as is mine) but the part is pricy.

Maybe it's the gauge itelf though and the needle is just stuck. Sounds like you need to do a little detective work
