W124 headlamp bulbs

What are the recommended replacement bulbs for a W124?
standard is H4 55/60w (i think)

current bulbs are probably past their best, i dont want anything that looks too flamboyant ( bright blue for example ) and do not wish to upset the bulb warning light on the dashboard

a mild improvement in light intensity would be nice

and are there any other recommended bulb changes?

or...would you leave well alone as they are all working and fiddling could cause problems/ erroneous dashboard warning lights

I put some Osram Nightbreaker Plus on mine (from about £12 per pair on ebay) and the difference was noticeable even though they only get three stars on the auto express test. Will try the Philips X-treme Vision next time round (they're about £17 per pair).

I dont take it out much at night so im just tinkering
But these seem a sensibly priced upgrade

We have the Phillips extreme vision on ours. Noticeably better than the original bulbs. They turn poor lights into reasonable lights even with continental beam things in situ.
