Just replacing engine loom in my 92 W124 320ce and was wondering if it was necessary to change the HT leads while in there?

Not had any problems with the car, but not used it very much at all for 3 years. Do these bio degrade like loom?

Also, long long time ago it did once or twice go into limp home with what i thought was an ASR message, but when restarted was ok. was this loom related?? (wife remembered)

thanks Simon.

Never changed my HT ignition leads in 168,000 miles - they just do not give problems.

BUT the end connectors do give problems and always change those 3 under- coil extenders with every spark plug change.

thanks for the info kth286 -

to clarify - thats the bit under the coils (3 of) that sit between the coil and the spark plug?

am i right in thinking, the actual wiring from the coils to spark plugs is pretty good and doesnt usually need attention.

sorry if these are thick questions.

Yes - those 3 - about 9 pounds each last time.

They contain 2k ohm resistances wires which go brittle and hard from the heat down in the plug well, and they can go open circuit from pulling them off when changing plugs.

Similar, but to a lesser extent the fittings on the plug ends of the 3 leads can go the same way.

However the actual leads themselves are just a length of fine wires and nothing to go wrong. Just keep the outer rubber coating clean and free from static debris.
