My 124 has the above option on the car.

I have since fitted an aftermarket alarm for more security and for the handy remote engine start :p

The original infra-red key, when directed at the boot and the button pressed, opens the boot? There is a little green and red light sensor on the bootlid and on the drivers side door.

If this is the case, it should be possible to wire into my existing alarm rather than having to install more components?

The RCL infra-red locking system usually comes with a (very good) immobiliser and, on some cars, an alarm as well. The key unlocks the car via the boot or driver's door sensor. Unless the saloons are different to the estates the key unlocks the whole car

I wouldn't think you could interface it to any other system because the key talks to a brain that controls the immobiliser / alarm / locking. Most systems I've seen that have been modified have ditched the RCL in favour of an ordinary remote locking alarm system
