I've seen a few threads referring to these steering wheels and comments that they are remanufactured and not 'correct' MB steering wheels:

That aside, has anyone bought and used one? What is the quality like, does it feel good and does it seem like it will last ok? Or any problems with it?

The leather of my S124 has lost its wearing surface in a couple of areas and on damp mornings feels sticky to touch. So, it's got to go and I have the dilema of sourcing a decent used leather wheel or going for one of these.

Trouble with the used wheel is that, until it's on the car, it might not be obvious just how good/bad it is and I'd never tell just looking at one on a web page, hence my interest in the eBay ones.

Anyone?

I got a wood leather wheel 18 months ago off ebay for the CLK and you can't fault it. Origanal Mercedes wheel just recovered with quality leather and wood to a high finish. Didn't get it from the people your looking at who are quite a bit cheaper than what I paid but I think prices change depending on model. Most of them I think come from Tiawan as it is. People I got mine from were called Delux Inc who were brilliant! The wood was slightly different from what's on the car so I sent it back to them in Taiwan and they sent me a correct one and refunded my postage! I was a little unsure at the time but well pleased all in all. If the pictures are of the wheel it looks pretty good. Don't think theres much that can go wrong as the wheel thats being recovered is OE equipment. Just got to make sure the colours right but saying that even on OE there can be be slight veriations on colour between the leather and plastic on the car.

it done me wonders!

Have mines on for about two years now. Same ebay seller too.

IMO feels 100 times better than the non wooden grips. I too had a worn out leather wheel so i changed it. Not good since you want to enjoy the drive in the 124!

Even if these particular ones have been re-manufactured, the wood pieces are solid and attached to the wheel properly.

This partcular wheel was off a w202, and do not know if they had simply chopped up an existing wheel and joined the wooden pieces on. Either way its solidly done.

I know for a fact the internals of the wheel were merc original as i had to swap over my horn assembley and contact ring for it to function on the 124 as it should. The w202 horn assembley on this particular wheel works off different wiring and doesnt have a self ground. Everytime i used the horn i kept blowing the fuse!

Some say the original wheel should have the wood edges at an angle to the leather. All good if you want to pay over the odds.

I too want an original eventually but this will suffice for now. It looks good.

BillyW124 has one on his car bought from that seller, maybe he could give some feedback

Also if you pay through Pay Pal you shouldn't have a problem if it's not what you wanted.

^^ he'll even fit it for you! Just pop around and he'll do it!

Simple if you have a nice clean bolt in the middle of the wheel, if you dont then you may run into trouble! but thats another story!

Just dont let him take the car to his mates garage where he will **** a bigger bit on it and use a Snap On Pneumatic to TRY and un bolt it. (which didnt work either)

The bolts if never been removed will be on TIGHT but never use one of these guns to undo. A quality bit and breaker bar to do it proper.

... Just buy the wheel and do 1!

Thanks Billy, he's too far away from me to fit it though. I'll have a think about it and maybe check with him about colour variations and the like. If I do decide to get one, I'd get Ian at 124Works to install it as it'll be going in for a service shortly anyway.

Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like it's a nice wheel :thumb:

Are there any exactly like this available with an airbag? Or can you just swap it over from the existing wheel to the new one?

just a stright swap. Personally I wanted the chrome star air bag which i managed to source.

I had one and thought it was brilliant. very high quality. and so much nicer than the tired leather one.

Let us know if you get one from him.
I'd be interested in your thoughts as I'm thinking of getting one too.

I've written off that idea :o

I do like the look of it but, since I posted this, I've discovered that mine is a Sportline wheel.

It's already a lot of cash and I couldn't transfer my airbag over as it's a different shape.

I'm not buying another airbag too so now I'm looking for a decently priced Sportline wheel, with or without bag, in good nick :D

Anyone?

i'm thinking of buying a wood/leather wheel off this ebay seller as he says he will do zebrano wood at the same price.....
