w124 lost tilt function

on my 1995 e220 I have lost the tilt function with the sunroof the slide open and shut works as always any clues much appreciated.

The sunroof motor is in the boot. Can you turn it by hand to open the roof?
If not then the mechanism is jammed.

Pop the inside piece off the sunroof and check the metal catch (you'll see the bit I mean). If it's not that then you need to remove the cable from inside the boot. This is probably the most likely thing to fail. If it's not either of those then it might me a gear problem which will require a whole new motor (expensive, but less likely)

I to have a 95 E220, but my tilt function works fine its the slide that will not move.

W124 sunroof problems are usually related to broken lifting hinges in the cassette or a drive cable that has popped out of the guide tube. Both a fiddly jobs best left to the experts

Had ours fixed earlier this week. It was a little rubber grommet/cover that had perished and dropped in the mechanism preventing the slide function working. Very easy fix for an expert - took him about 45mins all told. Nicks advice is sound. Get an expert to look at it - you may be surprised how easy/reasonably priced they can be to fix.
