i have a mercedes benz e230 model 1989. i was checking the fuses and found the following fuses not working :
fuse 4 : fog light
fuse 13 : low beam left
fuse 14 : low beam right
fuse 15 : high beam left
fuse 16 : high beam right , high beam indicator

i removed the fuses and checked at the bottom (where there should be current ) . but there wasn't. what could be the problem ?

Is there any corrosion.

Do these components work? Did you have the ignition on or off?

no , there is no corrosion. yes , they where fine but now they don't work. my ignition is on. thanks for ur fast reply

What *exactly* are you measuring? Where are you connecting the meter?, and what range are you setting the meter to?

I ask, because I suspect you may mean there was no voltage at the fuses, but, without your clarification, no-one can be sure.

iam checking with a tester which is pen like . inside it is a 24V lamp connected to a wire that goes for earth. i suspected as u did , so i checked the bottom of a healthy fuse and my tester lighted up .

no , i wasn't checking them with the lights on . i will check and post soon

Yes, I'm fairly sure AP is right.

If these circuits aren't working, they need both the rotary lamp switch to be working AND the combination switch on the stalk to work. I would be tempted to drop the steering cowl and measure at the connector (ideally, leave the connector in place, and probe in from the back with the circuit switched on) if your problem continues.

p.s. your tester confirms the presence of voltage, NOT current.

i tested them when lights switch was on but there was no voltage . what should i do ?

I assume your lights dont actually work as well as the fuses.

Do your interior instruments light up? if they do then most likely a bad switch or relay would most likely be the cause.

regards

i have my dome lamp unit not working too . could they be interconnected with each other ??
