W124 Odometer stopped

Hello,
I have a 1990 W124 230e with around 84k on the clock. Recently the odometer stopped working and on inspection, it was found that the speedo cable had snapped. That was replaced and all seemed to be fine but shortly after, the odometer stopped spinning again (both the main and trip). Can anyone please recommend a VDO odometer specialist for this era of car in the London area? Thank you
 
If you fancy pulling the cluster out, it may just be the cable has come unscrewed a little. It has to be fully in and tight, even slightly loose and it may not engage. There is also the chance that the gear wheel inside the speedo is slipping on the input shaft which is not uncommon and easily fifed with a spot of glue.
 
The mileage set, and mileage, record will stop if adjusted while your car is on the move . They can be repaired, i have done a few in the past . Main problem is the small brass gear will move across the shaft that it is fixed to , and in doing so the gear comes out of line with its mate . . If your gain with tools you can do it yourself . But if you cant then get another one Much faster to pick up a good used speedo console .A forum member is your best bet to buy one from ,,dont forget it must have the same VDO number on the speedo face .. . That way you know it will work . There are repair shops that can rebuild them if you want to stay original .If you do get it repaired,, get the shop to put the original milage back on it after its been repaired .

Thank you very much, yes I have a feeling I might have reset the trip mileage whilst on the move which could be the cause of the issue. I would like to keep it original so a rebuild is my preferred option but I am struggling to find any shops in the London area that can do it for me.

How i found out about them was , the one in my car was like it when the car came to me , my cousins wife did the trip reset on the move and it never worked after that .And i was given the car for a birthday preasant . So i googled the speedo repair and watched video on youtube how to tackle it .And a good forum member sent me an old speedo head to practice on . This helped me so much when i did my repair . That reminds me,, i sent that old speedo to some guy on the forum to give him an idea how to take his apart,, and it was never returned ... With an old one to play with you can see thing you do wrong, and other ideas to help you take your own apart . A speedo from Ebay will cost you from £50 + If you want to buy a good used one i have a friend that might have one, and i can give you his email address if you want to go down this road .
