Hi,

As I said in a post the other day, I'm now running an 1994 E220 which I've been refurbishing.

I've noticed that the oil pressure gauge (assuming its pressure and not oil level) only drops below 3 (it's highest reading) when I'm stationary. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Can anyone shed any light?

I would say you have got a very good engine there :thumb:

As said, perfectly normal behaviour.

The time you really want to worry is if it drops down suddenly when doing 70 on the motorway:eek:

Or when chasing a Vauxhall senator on the dual carriageway :D, it was followed by a large silence  and then a lot of swearing

but there is a fault on the sensor of oil, where reading is fine when cold, as it heats up, the guage points to zero, i been told it is the sensor that need changing it is on the facelifted e300 diesel 24v i have seen this one

Rather than start a new thread I have a question.

My 94 E220's oil gauge sits at 0 with the ignition off, turn the key to position 2 and it slowly rises to between 0 and 1 then when I start the car it goes straight up to 3 where it stays whether im driving or sitting in traffic. Turn the car off and after a second or two it will slowly return to zero.

I've covered about 4k miles since I bought it and the gauge has always been the same. Anything to start worrying about??

I would say considering the age of the car you have a very good engine in there that has been looked after over the years. Start worrying when you start the car and it only just gets to one with the engine running

Ah thank you Martin :thumb:
