hi
Just checking I have the right specs for oils for my '93 300TD
I got these from the handbook and MB 236.2 - Automatic transmission fluids (ATF, type A, suffix A, Specification 236.2) - Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Operating Fluids so hopefully corrrect....

- 4 speed Auto box, 6L, meets sheet 236.2 or 236.4...well there's no 236.4 listed so thats easier....gives stuff like Castrol TQ, Fuchs Titan ATF 10, Shell Donax TM etc

- Power steering fluid, 1L, sheet 236.2.....so the same stuff as in the transmission?

- Level control fluid, 2L, sheet 343: this only gives 'MB 343.0 Hydrauliköl A 000 989 91 03', or Aral Vitamol ZHM, (no UK distributor?)but I believe Febi 02615 may be the same?

- Brake fluid, 0.5L, sheet 330, DOT4 - no sheet 330, sheet 331 only lists 'MB 331.0 Bremsflüssigkeit A 000 989 08 07' so presumably any DOT4 brake fluid? Is DOT 4 plus ok too?

Can anyone confirm - I can put the same stuff in the box as in the PAS?
- can I use Febi 02615 for the SLS - and where to get it...

cheers!

Cheers, good one. Guess the stuff has been updated since these cars were new...(new names, at least!)

Sounds like the brake fluid is any decent DOT4, so thats not a problem

Still wondering about the SLS fluid, anyone know if this is available anywhere except the dealers? Or if the Febi 02615 is the same - or where to get it...?
(well, just found a supplier for Febi 2615, and it says ZHM on it, I guess we're good to go on that!

cheers!

FeBi Bilstein 02615 substitute - Bob Is The Oil Guy

If univis J-13 is correct...It is an VG ISO 13, hydraulic oil marketed by Exxon Mobil claiming a very high viscosity index, and available in the UK via industrial suppliers.

http://www.imperialoil.ca/Canada-English/Files/Products_Lubes/IOCAENINDESUnivis_J.pdf

The main thing I would look for here is if the original product is synthetic or mineral based, then either match, or flush if changing types. Only the very high VI aspect differentiates it from any other ISO 13 (or 15) hydraulic oil.

hi
well that looks too complicated, I think I will go with the Febi stuff, if it says Z-HM on the bottle, presumably it will be the right stuff as specified, and the same as the stuff already in it, hopefully....

cheers!

Good one, my ninja-search powers let me down again, but that seems to cover it all nicely

cheers!

What separates a fluid for use in a suspension system and normal hydraulic oil is a high viscosity index, it's resistance to thickening and thinning with temperature (read climate) change. Otherwise, the system would suffer in winter.
BMC in their hydrolastic systems used water (zero viscosity change with temp) with antifreeze, but no pump was employed - a closed system, fixed height.

maybe I am at the wrong place but....

Hi everyone,

I am a brand new and happy owner of a '94 w124 E220.

I need some help. Honestly, I dont know where should I ask this, so appologise if this is the wrong place.

So, could someone tell me what could be this? If I stadt front of the car on the right in the engine bay there is a hydraulic? liquid tank, and there is a hose at the bottom which is heading to the engine to a pump I guess. This hose is in bad condition because its covers by oil so I want to replace it.

Aby idea waht is that? Unfortunately I cant find any suitable picture to show you guys what I am talking about :-(

An other question: How and where can I get a good service manual for my w124 E220 toy ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Attila

hi
probably better off starting a new thread, but the oil reservoir at the front right sounds like the rear suspension - plastic, 'ZHM' written on it, little dipstick in the top?
Check the link for manual, US model range only but most of it still useful -
If you want a simple handbook the Haynes is quite good for basics

Model 124 Maintenance Manual Index

cheers!
