Hi all,

In the UK we have many dedicated "merc" forum sites and one of the best ive seen so far is this one.
However, I have not yet come across a single "W124" Forum site where members can discuss only their W124 with a portal of just w124 repair guides etc...
So...
Ive come up with an idea to design a dedicated site for only W124 Mercs
listing pictures, repair guides, how'to's, general w124 chat, W124 videos and W124 meet ups.

Just want to find out everyones opinion about this and if anyone has any good ideas to implement for me.

Thanks all :)

I voted no - but I'll explain why :)

In my experience, smaller focused forums tend to get a big stagnant after a while, mainly due to a lack of users/posts.

Forums like this one that deal with all models, have a vast resource of users. A guy with a 124 issue might have it resolved by a w202 owner who happens to be a mechanic for example. Plus it means if you change models you don't need to look around for yet another forum to join :)

Voted no. Most W124 owners are crashing bores as they go on and on about how brilliant the cars are, how they represent German and Mercedes engineering at their finest, how comfortable and practical the cars are, how no other model comes close, how brilliant they look with certain wheel combinations, how easy they are to maintain, how you can run them as a daily driver, how they will keep their value, how economical they are, how brilliant the suspension, how only the discerning really choose to buy them, how great the multivalve diesel is which you can run on cooking oil, and how they are Bruno Sacco's finest design, how valuable a pre-facelift convertible that sits in the garage is, etc etc etc

Thank heavens we don't have any of that on here!

Methinks you bear a bit of a grudge ;)

Edit: Ah, just saw you own one. Did I miss a bit of humour in your post!

Interesting replies :)
I respect all views =) I'll wait to see what others say as well :)
Thanks though

He`s on his third,124 in less than 2 years since he`s joined the forum

I find it easier to find the info you are looking for on dedicated model sites, but can see everyones point of view.

I`m going to vote NO

There are forums with dedicated W124 forums this is one W124 E,CE,D,TD Class - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum
And there's a French one which is very good :thumb: if you speak French:doh: w124.org Amicale francophone des Mercedes-Benz W124,S124,A124,C124,V124

I am a great W124 fan myself but like the other posters I reckon a dedicated W124 FORUM would be too exclusive an interest. If nothing else the number of these cars on road is going to diminish over the years and its useful to look ahead a bit for your next Mercedes.:dk:

^ What Charles said. And its a no from me. You pick up so much oblique information on other models as you canter about the forum. Most 124 owners or people seeking information on 124s generally stick "124" in the thread title so its easy enough to search for stuff. Or just ask Dash:thumb: There is not a lot gets past him 124 wise.

I voted no. I have other MBs beside a 124 and find the info on other models equally interesting.

I said yes - though I sold my W124 I've found that there are many people with a specialised W124 knowledge and pooling all that knowledge together in a specific forum may be a good idea. You've got nothing to lose if you set up a free forum online to test demand

only 124 forums? surely we need more forums on the interweb than that?

i vote no. 124 forums isnt enough to cover all the different topics.

:D

Its great that you have a passion for the 124 just like the rest of us, however you'll find other members who have previously owned 124's or have other MB models from that same era have great significant knowledge on these models too. A forum like this and the main MB owners club gives great insight, information, resources and host great get togethers.

Well, I don't own a W124 at present, but I've had a couple over the years, and several W201s (190Es), as well as other MBs - W202, W126, W208 and W210 - some of which share many similarities.

Many of the questions/knowledge apply to more than one chassis type - so perhaps by excluding other models you would be doing yourself out of a favour :)

Nice to have a passion for a particular model - but what makes this place so useful is the wealth of experience and information that is shared amongst the members

IMHO :thumb:

Thanks Charles for your entry - but it is in no way the fault of the owners that the quality of the W124 is so renowned. Should they not be allowed say '' a limited space '' or a special corner to compare notes and help each other out as others do ? Ponton-Jet.
