I ordered an owner's manual (for the model on the left) from my local dealer the other week. Initially, when asked he said he thought it would be a couple of quid but when the order was placed, it was to be £21. Worse though when it arived it was the wrong thing and the right one was going to be £61.

Does anyone have one they'd be willing to sell or know where I might get one? I could get one of those CDs off ebay but I was really looking for all the basic info, in a book, to keep in the glove box. And while it would be really handy, I couldn't justify spending £61 on it.

the owners manual costs a fiver (or thereabouts). I don't know where they are getting that price from unless they are including all the documents (black fabric wallet, service history book, dealer directory, handbook etc) - try phoning another dealer. Make it clear you want just the handbook not the entire documents folder.

Thanks Andy. I guess they'll be closed now but I'll ring around tomorrow. There isn't a part number you know of that I should quote is there?

Thanks for that. The manual seems to be for the facelifted "E" version from 94 on and mine is the earlier 250D (93 model registered in 94) but I'll keep an eye on it as I can't imagine there are that many differences other than styling.

but if you take that part number from the eBay auction into your dealer it will give them some clue where to look on the computer.

Further info to help the search

the 1995/96 estate handbook part number is 124 584 29 81 - you'll see that the first few numbers are the same so that may help

1990 ish pre facelift coupe handbook part number is 124 584 83 82

pre 1990 pre "slab sides" estate handbook part number is 124 584 42 83

Good thinking Andy. I'll call them tommorrow if they're open :D

Hows about phoning a couple of Merc breakers. Maybe they have one that they dont need and would be willing to part with for peanuts?

Thanks everyone, I got that one off Ebay.

It's not actually what I'd expected, in that there isn't very much information in it but I've ordered a Haynes manual too so between them I should find just about anything I'll need.

Incidentally, that Ebay seller was first class. The manual's like new and it arived within 2 days of the auction :)

There isn't a Haynes manual for your car.

They've published a manual for the pre-facelift E-class (to Aug '93), but not (yet) for the later versions.

Brooklands do a workshop manual, and I've just bought one, although I've owned three or four of these for various cars, and they've all been utter cr*p. It's the only workshop manual currently available for the facelifted W124 (and it looks like it might be utter cr*p).

Unless somebody else knows different...

Ah, I should be ok there. Although my car was registered in April 94, it's a 93 model :bannana:

Edit: At least I'm sure it is. I'll need to post a pic sometime just to check

I think it simply comes down to whether or not your car is a facelift model...
