The front seat belts in my 300TE no longer rewind properly and flop about meaning they are getting caught in the doors. Does anyone happen to know the part number for driver and passenger sides and whether this is a job that can be taken on as DIY or must it be done by a specialist?

Thanks.

Mercedes Benz Model 124 - M103 Maintenance Manuals seats and belts are near the bottom of the page, section 91. I've not looked at the relevant instruction pdfs but they'll almost certainly refer you to other sections for things like trim removal

Part numbers numbers can be found here Front seat, Headrest, Cushion frame, Armrest, Safety belt for Mercedes 124.090 (300TE) put the part number (prefixed with a and without spaces) into SAFETY BELT - E Class 1985 - 1994 E250D - Mercedes-Benz Parts, Inchcape after having a stiff drink

Thank you. Not sure why both are so reluctant to retract but I suppose they are 24 years old. Be good to get new parts rather than used so will have to start saving as I've just paid for the CHG to be done.

Might be worth spraying the belts with silicone lubricant as it has been known to free them up.
It doesn't mark your clothes.

Pointless spraying the belts - it's not the belts that cause the problem

There are three problems: twisted & old belts, sluggish springs on the inertia reel and a misplaced guide behind the B-pillar trim

If you take off the B-pillar trim (good luck with that) you'll find there's a guide for the belt fixed to the trim. It often falls off & jams the belt when retracting

You're also likely to find everything covered in dust & fluff - unwound the whole belt & hoover it out
