Hi

Has anyone replaced the seat covering on a cloth seat back on a W124.

The cloth bit has eventually worn right through just where her bum rubs against while getting in and out.

I have heard that the seat back cover can be bought from dealers any pitfalls etc help appreciated from anyone who has done this.

No just the plain manually adjustable ones, she is easy pleased.

I've just bought a driver's seat cover from MB. Cost was £141 + vat. I don't think fitting should be too difficult, but I'm going to allow a full day for it. Incidentally you have to cut in the holes for the headrest.

Thanks for the reply,

Was that the both bottom and back rest pieces and can they be sold seperately. £165 is more than i thought it would be.

changing seat cover

I did it yesterday. Total time including customer phone calls, tea during, and sundry distractions was around three hours. Points to watch:
1. Position the seat cover over the hewadrest adjustment holes and mark up where you need to cut holes.
2. Dealer supplied rear seat cover comes without the metal clips which run horizontally at shoulder height. You'll have to make up a retaining system for this area. In my case I used a piece of electrical cable to retain the cover through the existing metal frame struts.
3. Absolute hell to push through the metal clips which fit onto the rear of the seat horsehair moulded piece. I made up some pull-through pieces of wire to position the metal clips so that I could insert the retaining clips.
4. When stretching the side pieces of the cover do not be afraid to be fairly vigorous - the fabric is semi-stretchy and can take it (be careful not to hole the fabric as it will then be easier to tear.
The seat cover was for the upright rear of the seat only!
