Dear All,

I'm re-commissioning my old 92 W124 300TD with the OM603 fitted and want to do a few jobs to get me started. I've been trawling the net all morning with little success so I'm turning to the forum for help.

I want to change the fluids as part of this. Can anyone recommend the best:

engine oil
diff oil
atf
coolant?

She seems to run a little hot (i.e.: over 90) - is this cause for concern on this engine?

Also i've got a rattling when at idle coming from the V belt that goes away when engine is revving. I want to change the belt and any pulley/tensioners that need it - does anyone have part number or a source for these because everywhere I look it says 'not compatible'!

I also have a vacuum issue. I've fixed this on a W123 in the past, where it was a door actuator which had failed, but I don't seem to have any part of it working on this car. Although the vacuum stop switch moves slightly when I turn the key off I still have to lift the bonnet and push it to stop the engine. I've got no central locking either. I've got a heap of spare pipe and connectors, but does anyone have any advice on where to start, as I'm hoping that if I found the culprit the vacuum STOP lever will work again?

Last will be the ubiquitous rear suspension, but I've got all the info on that I need, and am leaving this until last!

Any help/advice appreciated,

Dot

Update:

I went for a road test last night and the alternator failed, all the classic signs, so on top of the belt tensioner and pulley I’ll do that now.

I’ve got the tensioner as 601 200 1773. Can anyone help with the belt and alternator numbers at all? I’m reading too that maybe the crank oil seal should be done? Any other parts needed? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Dot lots of oil suppliers will recomend the right type of oil you need .I use Castrol Magnatec semi synthetic but i have the petral engine M103.
