I had a look at some similar threads using the search function, and it seems like others experience the "stiff throttle pedal" on their W124s as well.

It's the common problem of it being stuck at one point, when you are trying to push it down gently.

I tried spraying WD40 on the throttle cable, but it didn't make any difference...

So I thought I would buy a new one, but can't find it anywhere?

Are they all the same or vary depending on the engine? And how hard is it to change it?

I have been told the stiffness is caused by the RHD routing of the cable doesnt allow a smooth movement, my car is very aggressive in reverse. I bet Ian Walker will be able to shed light when he sees this post. At the momenty I just put up with it, I can even use it as a footrest when driving on long journeys

I'm living with it now too, not something important, but if it's a cheap fix, then why not?

It's quite annoying, when you are driving in traffic and want to move off slowly...

Pressing it gently almost stalls the car, because you have to push it really hard to build the revs, but in that case it jerks forward too fast

hi
I had to get a throttle cable for my '93 300TD, only place had one was Merc, cost about £35?

Very easy on the Diesel, little bit more involved on a petrol motor though...

cheers!

I went to my local scrapyard and found a throttle cable from a W202 C200, which should be the same, or no?

More importantly, I couldn't figure out how remove the bloddy thing...

Might sound daft, but before you try anything else, lift the carpet out, check if there's any muck/grit around the base of the pedal. It's surprising what gets trapped in there over the years.

Done that, but it's definitely something to do with the cable.

I would replace, if someone told me how

Guys, I'm still living with this, and I was thinking could it be my throttle body causing this problem, not the cable?

Is this right?

A 1998 W124? Sounds a bit recent to be a 124.

Anyway, I had an issue with my throttle cable - it was a pathetic piece of plastic that secures the end on to the metal linkage. This broke and, once replaced, all was well.

The point I'm making is that it pays to check that the linkage on the engine side of the cable is free. I've had trouble in the past on a RHD W123; the cable broke and the linkage was dried up and needed lubrication.

And yes, as has been said above, the routing of the RHD cable is less direct than that of my LHD.

Bonne chance.

Go to your local MB dealer with your chassis no and they will keep you right on which part to order.
