W124 subframe bushes

I did mine, one side at a time, in my garage, with no special tools.

I will certainly have a look at them next weekend and see what I think . I'm reasonably encouraged by the several people who have said it is do-able by dropping one side at a time .

I don't think chassis rust will be a problem since the car looked very sound underneath when I was fitting the exhaust ( although I didn't look specifically at these points ) .

Druk also mentioned on another forum that the diff mounts are worth checking too .

Hi Derek,
this is the methode I used and what Derek used as well. Its not that difficult, but its a bit of hard work ;)
You should be able to open the pdf, if not let me know and I send it out to you or put it here .
Its for a w210 but yours must be similar. Mind you if you have a tow bad it make it difficult...
Enjoy the DIY :)

on another hand I need the bushes, then if you don't feel like doing it , would you sell me yours?
Cheers :)

Well I just had a look today and the front ones are shot ! Even with the short handle of my 3/8" ratchet placed between the subframe and mount point I can flex it easily and see movement in the subframe ! There is surface rust where underseal has peeled off , but everything seems nice and solid .

I will have a go using the hammer and chisel method , but may wait for the sun to go down a bit as it is scorching out there and a bit too hot for hard labour .

I got the nearside front bush done last night , once the ambient temperature had cooled down a bit .

Slightly worryingly , both mounting bolts came out very easily . The front bush was completely knackered : I was able to lift the middle out with one finger as it had completely separated from the rest of the bush . It took a while to hammer and chisel away at the rest of the bush , but got it eventually . I lubricated the new one with Fairy liquid and it went in fairly easily , using a jack under the corner of the subframe to press it in against the underside of the car . The new bolt was VERY tight going to get in .

The rear bush seemed completely intact and solid - so I left it alone - I'll put some thread lock on the bolt just to be on the safe side .

Just got to re-hang the back section of the new exhaust that I only fitted the other week then had to take off again , and paint the fuel lines , before I do the other side one night this week .
