Starts fine, idles fine, picks up fine and after about 5 minutes of driving starts to hiccup, losing power but does not turn off, drives at about 10mph, foot off the pedal and depress slightly then runs smooth for a few seconds and resumes to hiccup state - appears to be fuel related
At idle in neutral, revs high smoothly first and then stutters again at high revs.
It's a 300TE Auto 12V with new plugs and dizzy cap, plenty fuel in tank.

The stuttering at high revs in neutral is normal - engine is designed not to be able to be revved above about 4000 rpm in neutral.

(Sorry, can't help with your main query.)

Amazing.......just "tapping" the relay (OVR?) with the fuses on top behind the battery and pressing in the wiring connector sorted the hiccups. Smooth as velvet now.

Glad you got it sorted. These relays develop dry joints [cracks] in the small PCB = printed circuit board that the components are mounted on inside the relay can. If the problems return you can quite often repair the relay by resoldering the PCB connections after removing the can. Sometimes its necessary to replace the entire relay but hopefully in this case that will not be necessary. http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/favourites/93685-how-repair-resolder-relay.html
