W124 Suspension pipes corroded

I just looked up the last MOT for my W124, and I wish I hadn't now.

It said:

Advisory Notices Issued

Suspension pipes corroded at rear

From what I've heard about these pipes, I'm worried now! It is likey to fail it's MOT (in July) because of this, is there anyway I can stop the problem getting any worse, and if they do need replacing, how much would it cost?

Clean them up with a wire brush and put a layer of grease so they look well-cared for. I bet the last advisory was just because they looked a bit uncared for.

Cleaning them may give you an idea of how long they will continue to last too. Replacement pipes are expensive but I seem to remember a member got hydraulic hoses made up for his years ago - could have been Pontooner - as they are still going strong

Once I get a workshop manual for the car (so I know where the pipes actually are!), I'll do as you suggest.
