I just looked up the last MOT for my W124, and I wish I hadn't now.

It said:

Advisory Notices Issued

Suspension pipes corroded at rear
From what I've heard about these pipes, I'm worried now!:( It is likey to fail it's MOT (in July) because of this, is there anyway I can stop the problem getting any worse, and if they do need replacing, how much would it cost?

Thanks.

Clean them up with a wire brush and put a layer of grease so they look well-cared for. I bet the last advisory was just because they looked a bit uncared for.

Cleaning them may give you an idea of how long they will continue to last too. Replacement pipes are expensive but I seem to remember a member got hydraulic hoses made up for his years ago - could have been Pontooner - as they are still going strong

OK, thanks.

Once I get a workshop manual for the car (so I know where the pipes actually are!), I'll do as you suggest.

i probably need to do this at some point aswell :(
