W202 W124
Hello, thank you for letting join the forum, I originally joined to try and learn more about the potential pitfalls of my recent W124 purchase (my everyday car is a W202). Earlier this week the W124 decided to expel all of its water. On further investigation it seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine and being sprayed around by the belts and fan. It’s coming out at quite a rate. Any ideas to what it may be. Thank you in advance Paul

radiator, rad hoses, waterpump, thermostat, thermostat bypass hose, heater return hose?????????????????????
post your vin no please

Take the fan shroud off so you can see what's going on better from above, refill it with water. You should be able to see if it's radiator/hoses related or engine to begin with. Loss of a lot of coolant quickly is likely to be a hose.

Thank you, that’s the outcome I’m hoping for rather than something deeper. The engine is smooth but compared to my w202 sounds rough, the water issue is an unwelcome disruption.

onetwofourtwo Might be a core plug rusted out . You will need to dig in to the the engine to find just where it is leaking coolant . Look for this hose it could be your problem

Reason i used SKF- is that Mercedes use the same bearings in their coolant pumps . The one i took out [Meyle ] was only 4 years old and the motor had done just 2000 miles . Not long after i had fitted the pump , i had to keep topping it up with coolant Once the old pump was off i could see it was leaking through the weep hole due to a bad bearing .
