Hi, my current w124 1996 model has 15" wheels, although they look ok (5 spoke alloys) Many other w124`s seem to have 17"/18" alloysn fitted, Excuse my ignorance:crazy:, but what size can i fit to my vehicle without altering any bodywork? Would appreciate any advice, Many thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't go any larger than 16". Larger diameter rims means more expensive tyres, the speedo will read incorrectly and to get the tyres to fit inside the wheel arches may well mean fitting lower profile tyres which will give a harsher ride. You will also have to obtain five wheels, or your spare won't match the others, so you're up the creek if you have a puncture - and a larger rim and tyre won't fit your spare wheel compartment......

Other than that, it's all plain sailing!

all depends on the look you going for, my 124 is running 18s 8's on the front with a 10mm spacer with 9's on the back

I've got 18'' fitted to my 300CE 24V, low profile tyres..... The front wheels sometimes rub on the wheel arches when hitting bumps at speed, or when reaching the bottom of a hill.... common on Exmoor! I plan to add some bump stops to the front suspension (available of ebay.de) to prevent this. Other than that, no issues with ride comfort or road noise, car still 'wafts' along... Economy tyres about £60 each, £100 for branded ones. Spare tyre is a standard wheel, I've used it to drive 30 miles home on a dark winters night without incident! Can't see the problem there unless the external diameter is way out. Speedo matches readout on my sat nav give or take a couple of MPH, so that has never caused me an issue either.... If you like the look, go for it!

Phil....

You'll have zero rubbing or interference problems if you go max 18x8 ET35...anything more and you should space the fenders and roll the wheel arches..:thumb:

Speedo will only read incorrectly if you change the overall diameter from that of the stock tire.
The OD varies from tire manufacturers on the same "size" tire..
Usually no problem even with 17" -18" rims to match the stock tire OD measurement.
The published size only indicates cross section profile and wheel diameter, doesn't indicate OD or tread width !
Use your stock spare as it will be the same OD and get you to where you need to go much better then a limited speed rated "space saver' spare or not having any spare like many new cars with run flats or tire repair kits have.

I installed a +1 conversion to 17" on my 1988 300CE in 1990, two years after I purchased the car new.
Upgraded to 18" in 2004 and back to 17" AMG/OZ 3 piece Aero I's two years ago.

Thanks for all th replies, very much appreciated, Will probably start looking for a set of 17", Just something to fill up the arches, giving a better look. Thanks again ,Dave...

One more thought. If you do change the wheels for a bigger size, make sure you tell your insurance company. In the event of a claim, especially if you'd had a puncture and changed a wheel to one of a different size, they could (and probably would) use that as an excuse not to pay out.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I bought these wheels. They were delivered this morning and are in stunning unmarked condition. Getting some Kleber winter tyres later in the week courtesy of event tyres. Unfortunately the 124 wont be back from Italy for another 6-8 weeks. Cant wait. Will post some pictures then.
A big thank you for the link.

Brilliant silver with black leather. The wheels are in the correct MB standard silver wheel paint but without the polished rim which suits me fine. The car is currently on 8 hole 15 inch so these should make a big difference.
