Hi guys hope I'm doing this right. I have recently purchased a 1990 230e. It has a few faults but the one that is giving me a headache is the wiper. It works on all speeds and the intermittent also works. Indicators etc all work. But the wiper parks dead centre on the screen. I have changed the N10 relay and again everything works fine but it still parks dead centre. Any advice guys would be great. THANKS in advance Rod.

You have done right to change the N10. I did that on mine and it worked fine for a while. Then it adopted a right Slack Alice attitude and parked anywhere it damn well pleased. Some say a new motor but Im living with mine for now - its driving me nuts but Ill living with it.

Oh and you did it right and welcome to the forum.

The dreaded wiper issues....I am sure there are DIY strip downs to fix this issue?

The wiper assy is in 2 parts, clutch / mech....new from MB circa £700, from a breakers £150ish...

Had this problem on a few early C-Classes, went with breaker part to fix:thumb:

The wiper mechanism needs to be realigned so that the wiper blade parking position can be corrected, the cause of the fault is likely to be loose or slipped nut/s on the rear of the mechanism.

The mechanism should also be lubricated, is the “turtle shell” at the base of the wiper arm plastic or metal?

Thanks guys it's metal Dec

Also do you know if it would be an MOTOROLA failure if parking on screen

What is MOTOROLA failure?

Dec

Probably an MOT failure auto corrected by some silly software!

Before you do any work on the mechanism, be sure to park the wiper motor, to park the wiper motor, turn the wiper on for a few sweeps of the screen then turn it off, to 0, at the stalk switch, wait for the wiper blade to finish its cycle and come to a stop.
It will stop, as in your case, in the middle of the screen, remove the keys from ignition and remove the wiper mechanism from the car.

After lubricating the mechanism, ensure the wiper blade/arm is aligned so as it will park in its correct position at the bottom of windscreen.

See… http://www.marekv.ee/MB/MonoWiper_removal.pdf

Below link is for a W202 wiper mechanism, same principle as a W124 but a different design/layout.

If it consistantly parks in bang the middle of the screen i'm wondering if some muppet took it apart and realigned things for the "touring car" look?

Thanks for the help guys. Doubt the touring car idea old boy had it from new and he was 70 odd. Also one last question. The car is smooth and quiet apart from when going round a left hand bend under acceleration. I get a vibration through the whole car sounds like it's coming from right front any ideas. Thanks

Track rod end or wheel bearing. Jack up one front wheel at a time (not both) try and wobble the jacked wheel. You should have no play.
