Now have a S212 350 PETROL! . Did have 1992 W124 300E Ford Escort 1300E(now sold!)
I have just had the head gasket done and the head tested.it needed some welding, which was done.I have done about 400 miles now and have some problems.I managed to get 30MPG four up and full of luggage!!

Firstly before the gasket was changed it ran around 90'C.It now runs at that when driving but quickly goes up above 100 when in traffic. The air-con fans cut in and keep the temp around that but when caught in traffic over the bank holiday it seemed to keep climbing. It did not loose any coolant,it's just that it seems to running a lot "hotter" than before.

Also I have a broken NSF coil spring, which i shall be looking to get the cost back from the local council, but should I change the OSF at the same time?

Is the viscous fan running ok?

Replace both springs. Why are you claiming from the council for the broken spring? This is just wear and tear surely?

Thanks for the reply. The viscous fan runs and if you pick the idle up and runs at 2000rpm the temp comes down almost straigh away by about 10'C

The spring has a clean break by the bottom cup and I remember going over/in a large pothole about a week before it was picked up during the above work. There was no surface rust on the brown surfaces so it must have happened recently.

Does the VF run at full yield at 100c? They are very noisey at full wack.

Not sure what you mean by full yield.Do you mean the clutch be at fault if the temp drops when the rev's are picked up but is causing a problem at idle?
