Hi all. First Post here. I've just purchased a lovely 1990 420 SE, and I am delighted with it! It needs the bumper chrome front and back, but otherwise its very solid.
So, I am assuming 10w40 for the oil?
Coolant wise, I know that the Aluminium block requires a specific type of coolant, but am unsure of what type- is it as simple as either the orange or the blue type?
Do you guys advise on any partarticular preventative maintenance?

The car is faultless apart from a very jerky cruise control, where the car appears to lurch and surge considerably when the cruise control is engaged.

All thoughts and comments/advice much appreciated!

Christy.

When I had my w126 I stuck with 10w40 semi synthetic and changed it often.
As for coolant I used whatever met the mb spec , I can't recall what it was though.

First thing I would check is the chain rails, they are plastic timing chain guides. They get brittle with age , break and cause the timing chain to skip.
If you search for m116 or m117 chain rails or chain guides you should get what you are after.
