Sorry meant the AMG Oz splitties which are a period correct option not the Operas. Check Jays Sec build threads to see how good they look :) Expensive nowadays though and the cash may be better spent on the restoration though ! If you do get the aero 1s make sure you get the low offset ones as the high offset 124 ones will fit but look rubbish !

AMG Aero 1s for now - if i ever decide on something different, for the wheels themselves, you'd at least get your money back, so manmaths checks out.

It's a 6k car in a sorry state, so modifying (lowering, wheels - have my eye on that seam on the lower trim and think that might look good removed) i can do with a more clear conscience. It's going to be 100 times better than the poor thing looks now.

As i said earlier, would never ever consider touching a thing on my R129 (ok, i do have a more modern Becker head unit with bluetooth, etc), but the 560 SEC seems begging to go low...

I love the look of these models - lowered or not - and I think a £6k car with £5k spent is still a lot of car for the money. Several unrestored W126s round my way have bitten the dust recently and so I’m sure increasing rarity is going to lift prices of good ones in the coming years.

I mentioned the plate was pretty cool too... ;)

At the moment, hassles with an old style V5 so can't tax it, so it's off the road, but hopefully not for long. Lots to do, but so far at least, looks a good 'un.

First question - if seats don't move back with doors open and engine off, and the side buttons on the seats don't so anything - what do we think? Most i've read talk about the opposite - loss of vacuum meaning you can't lock the seats...

Side buttons on the seats? The power seat controls are on the doors. If you're talking about this, then there's a seat module under the seats, if it's buggered, the seats won't move and neither will the steering wheel. Check of the floors got wet by lifting the carpet. You can adjust the seats by going in there with a small battery charger and sending power directly to the motors.

If you're talking about the lumbar support? then the bladders probably failed.

Sorry ... to be more clear , I mean my seats stay locked in position and will not fold forward to allow access to the rear. The electric seat movement is all fine ... I just can’t get into the back of the car !

the buttons on the side i believe are supposed to release the seats when the door is closed so you can fold toward ... neither side does that at the moment.

Maybe there was a problem with them locking in place (or the testing garage didn't know how they were supposed to work) so someone has manually locked them in place with a bodge

Yes - definitely a project car, it's just the extent of said project is what i'm trying to do the man maths for :)

Unfortunately don't really have the tools or time for much DIY (plus the skills), so would need to get a man in for most jobs. There are some good specialists around here though, and good bodyshops.

Didn't take enough pictures, but one before running, one whilst running, and the worst spot of rot looking up from the boot attached....

parts diagram shows the seat back lock actuating rod and RETURN SPRING!!!! In theory as vacuum is removed the seat back should unlock as vacuum is released- it sounds as if the spring has broken or the mechanism seized not realeasing the locking pin??

Excellent - thanks so much for this. Sounds a decent hypothsis - so I'll get a seat out at the weekend, and have a look.

Where is the diagram from? Is it possible to get pdf manuals for these...?
