W126 bumper chrome

Does anyone know if the corner / side chrome piece on a W126 rear bumper is the same on both the original and face lift car?

Thanks a lot

I do have a spare side piece for the facelift rear bumper kicking around in great condition if you're interested?

EDIT: Can't remember which side though, if you're interested I'll check and get back to you!

That would be great Mr S, thanks

My 1989 300 SE has good chrome on the front bumper apart from the off side corner blade.
I've located a complete bumper locally but the breaker will not allow me to split.
I'm trying to gauge the viability of buying the entire bumper and trying to sell the other components on.
The new part from MB is £62.
I've been unable to gleen market value from fleabay as there are so few examples.

Could I reasonably expect to 'sell on' the centre chrome, near side blade and cover strips for say £90 to £100? Is there any value in the plastic and other components of the bumper?

Thanks Ian, I'll do some further negotiations during the week with the breaker to see if I can get his price down to an economic level.

I just got a complete gen 2 bumper with good chrome for £40, I would be very careful if buying unseen, the chrome may look ok on the surface but it all rots out from underneath, also the bolts will be rusted on, these can be replaced with standard m8 bolts, if you can see it first, and the price is right then go for it.:thumb:

A complete bumper with good chrome for £40 sounds very good. I am very much aware of the chrome eating from the underside. My deflective blade is essentially just a veneer of chrome with no metal behind it! It has all rusted away.

Looks like I've got my work cut out to get the price down to the £40 mark.

Thanks for your comments though, very useful.

£40, wow, well done!

Think it was just a case of right place right time, also chasing the recovery truck down the road helped as well !!:D:D Ithink theres a few bits left, but the shell has gone to the crusher, had good panels on it too, dont think the guy realised what he had, I didn`t want to give away too much, but he`s going to phone me if he gets any more w126 in for breaking, I`ll post on here whats available, then you guys can have fist pickings.:thumb::thumb:

One of my local breakers who had three W126's in at the time quoted me £25 for a bumper , stating 'those are the ones with the chrome on' - he didn't differentiate between front or rear , or Gen 1 and Gen 2 . Ironically , I wanted the front bumper off a Gen 1 280SE for mine as the plastic had been damaged by a wheely-bin some neds had set on fire outside the previous owners home , but my chrome was fine ( is fine on both my cars ) .

It all comes down the the individual breaker , what they paid for the car , and the value of scrap when the rest of the car is to be weighed in .

Last year there were six W126's breaking near me in four different yards - currently only one late model 500SEC .

This one was still lying in the car park opposite the vendor's house when I last passed a couple of weeks ago - he may have revised his price now that MOT/Tax have run out ( or will very soon ) .
