It's been a while since I posted on here, but need some specialist advice, so here goes.

I have been playing with the idea of swapping the engine in my 300se for a V8. I have a 500sec which i stripped and was planning on doing the swap from that (the car is basically a running shell), but I have now been offered a 560sel and would rather have the 560 in the se.

I'm guessing the engine and gearbox swap is pretty straight forward, but was wondering what other parts I would need to source to complete the swap, mainly relating to the drive train.

1. Is the prop shaft from an SEL going to fit in my SE?
2. Is there any recommend guys to recondition the differential from a 560SEL

Cheers :thumb:

Any good MB mechanics around the west mids that can do the swap for me?

be careful as if yours pre 1985, it hard to upgrade as ecu and wiring is different from gen 2 w126 560 sel also mind the hydrolic suspension another consideration etc

why do you think its a pre 85 car??? retro fitting the rear sls isnt very difficult as he has a parts car, why not just keep the se's rear end.

Think dinoy was just advising in case the op didnt know or had a pre 85

MB made a 560 SE so it is possible. As you are going to put the 560 lump into a 300SE shell, you will need to bring a fair amount of stuff across. The 560 SEL had hydraulic/pneumatic suspension which you might want to carry over but its a lot of hassle for nothing. Seems a lot of effort for little more than a standard 500SE

The car is a 1990, so no issues between being a gen 1 vs gen 2.

I'm going to try and steer away from adding the sls. Don't think its worth the hassle. My car is running on bilstein shocks and H&R springs at the moment and I quite like the ride.

I know it will be a lot of work, but I have just had a major gearbox malfunction with the se and I don't see the point in getting it sorted if I have a 560 donor car and can manage to find somebody who knows what they're doing to swap it all in.

Plus it would be a dream to have a 560 sel, sec and se all in blue black with amg kits, and given that I already own 2 of those 3 I can't resist. :D

I was toying with the idea of a W210 e55 conversion at one point but I would rather have something that was actually made in the factory and go down a "retrofit" sort of route.

A few other plans for the car are getting my recaro classic c's in, which need to be retrimmed. I also would like to do a brake upgrade, any ideas of what are good upgrades from newer MB models. Was thinking that porsche boxer brakes would be cool but not sure if they'll clear the splits.

Dont bother with the E55 swap, it's not worth it. Get an early m119 and build something special.:thumb:

Would love to, a friend of mine had a m119 in a w116 in the Netherlands, the car was drop dead gorgeous: but think I'll stick to trying to get the 560 lump in :thumb:

why u do not get this put your 560 in it and keep as genuine 560 sel with heated seats front n back
